JAZZ
Hi everyone my name is Jazz and I want to tell you my story. I am one of the lucky ones, not every neglected Bully ends up in such an awesome home!! I used to live with a heap of other Bulldogs but we never played because we were all to sore and sick we used to just sit on the front porch like little statues. Then in May 2009 I heard I was up for sale on a popular New Zealand website for $1000. I was pretty scared about moving to a new home but man this was the “bestest” thing that ever happened to me. I now know that my new Mum (Sue) emailed my old owner/breeder to ask why I was being sold, if I had a good temperament and if I had any health problems. Mum was told I had Cherry Eye in just one eye and had previously had a case of mites but that I was a nice wee girl. Knowing all this my Mum was still happy to purchase me and give me a new permanent home.It was not until I arrived in Christchurch in my tiny transport crate (Voyager 400) that Mum realised I had far more problems than what my old owner had led her to believe. A nice MAF officer helped me out of my crate and told Mum of his concerns and started taking photos of me. I tried to look as awesome as possible for the photos but you can see for yourself I was in a real bad way.I had Cherry Eye in both eyes, green stuff coming from both my eyes and my nose and I still had mange. I was so itchy I had scratched raw patches on my face and my body but even looking like this Mum kept me, she wanted to give me a safe and happy home. I went to the vet straight away and she started making me feel better with lots of medication and then she made my eyes stop hurting by operating on them – wow I was feeling great. After I had my Cherry Eyes fixed I had treatment for my lateral ulcer and then an operation on my nose so I could breath. Finally I could lie down and still breath I was in heaven, I didn’t have to sleep sitting up now – I knew I was on a good thing! I had heaps of baths with a special shampoo to stop my skin itching and now I don’t have red raw patches anymore. Mum had to pay over $1000 for all this, she did get some money from my old owner but I bet she would have paid the world just to get me better.
I am really really happy now, I am no longer in pain I can play with my brother Matrix and I am taken into the show ring every now and then with Mum. I even won a huge ribbon at the SBC show, winning best limit in show. My Mum tells me she has no regrets and would do it all over again for me – I am loved unconditionally now and I am making the most of it.
Jazz is now a happy and social Bulldog however the whole process has been traumatic for both Jazz and myself. Buying a Bulldog off the internet can be tricky and if not careful you might end up with more than you bargained for - It is not all cute photos. My advice, do a lot of research ask for current photos and if you can visit the dog. Please take care when purchasing a dog off the internet but remember you may also give a dog the best life it could ever ask for.
